Abstract: Study on the identification of procedures and means by which a post-tonal harmonic theory could be
elaborated, and the facts that support these means. Some basic principles, presented by NATTIEZ (1984) as
fundamental premises for any harmonic tonal theory, served as a theoretical reference for this discussion and to
verifying the application of those principles to a post-tonal framework.
Keywords: harmony; post-tonality; theory of harmony; twentieth-century music.
